This is a classroom speaking activity where learners define vocabulary items from the game Samorost 2. This is a fun test of learners awareness of the meaning of the objects that appear in the game.

Preparation
Download and print off (on card if possible) a copy of Samorost 2 nouns for each team of four and cut out each word square.

Play
1) Divide the class into groups of four. Each group of four consists of two teams (A and B).
2) Hand out the a complete cut up copy of the Samorost nouns to each group. They place them face down on the table.
3) A Player from A and B sit together and opposite two other members of team A and B.
e.g.

A B

A B

4) Teams have 1 minute in which to pick up a Samorost 2 noun card and describe the word to the two team members on the opposite side of the table. The team member next to the describer looks at the card but keeps quiet - their job is to make sure there is no cheating.

5) The first team member (A or B) on the opposite side of the table wins the card.

6) After a minute the turn of describing the Samorost 2 noun passes to the right in a clockwise direction around the table.

7) A describer can choose to pass on a word but has to put it to the bottom of the pile.

8) The game finishes when all the words have been defined and won or all team members have to say 'pass' on each word.

Post Play
  • Learners look up the words that they didn't know (i.e. they passed on) in a dictionary and write down a definition.
  • Learners teach the 'passed' words to a classmate.
