Level: Intermediate
Location: Computer room/ Classroom
Activity: Gap fill
Language: Verbs + prepositions
This can either be done in the computer room as a during play activity or in the classroom as a post play activity.
PreparationDownload a copy of the
Verb + preposition worksheet. Make enough copies of the first page for each learner. The second page is the teacher's copy.
Play the game of Samorost2 from the beginning until the character called Gnome (our hero dressed in white) picks up the hammer from the snail that has fallen asleep.
An example of the worksheet
Pre-playDecide if you are going to do option
A or
B below.
If you choose option A then you should hand out the worksheet before the Play activity and in the classroom.
Ask learners if they know the meaning of the vocabulary in the box at the top. If necessary give examples (that are NOT from the game). e.g drop your pen and ask a learner "Could you pick my pen up for me please?"
When you are confident your learners understand the meaning of the verb+ prepositions ask them to bring them to the computer room.
A Play ActivityIf you choose to do this activity as a play activity then it is a good idea to do the
Video Made Walkthrough activity or the
Video Relay activity.
Learners fill in the worksheet as they see the actions completed in the game.
Feedback on the answers and the final activity on the teacher's answers in open class back in the classroom.
B Post Play ActivityInstead, you could use the worksheet after the computer room play activity and give the worksheets to your learners when they are back in the classroom.
Hand out the worksheet and ask learners if they know the meaning of the vocabulary in the box at the top.
If necessary give examples (that are NOT from the game). e.g drop your pen and ask a learner "Could you pick my pen up for me please?"
Learners then complete the worksheet in pairs.
Feedback on the answers and the final activity on the teacher's answers in open class.
Post activityLearners test each other. In pairs one learner turns their worksheet face down on the table and the other learner reads out sentences 1 -7 but says 'mmm' instead of the verb and preposition.
e.g. The dog 'mmm', 'mmm' of his kennel.
The other learner listens and repeats the sentence but with the correct verb and preposition.
When the tester finishes number 7 he can turn their paper face down on the table and their partner can test them on 8 - 14 with their paper.
